Hilda Jean Williams Powers (Jean) was born in Jacksonville, Florida on August 14th, 1937, to
Walter and Etta Williams. Born one of six children, she valued family and relationships above all
else. When Jean was a teenager, she moved to Phenix City, Alabama to live with her mother
and attended Central High School. While in high school she met the love of her life Gerald K
Powers (Jerry), they married a few years after graduation, and were married for over 57 years
when Jerry passed away. Jean was many things to many people, she was first and foremost, a
Christian who had a love relationship with her Heavenly Father and she modeled that
relationship with all whom she encountered. She was a devoted wife to her husband, and she
was a loving mother to her three children and their spouses. Jean was a bookkeeper in her
brother’s real estate firm for many years, and a pastor’s wife who encouraged many people who
came to her with their problems, and being a Godly prayer warrior, her biggest advice was to
pray and to trust in God.
Jean and Jerry were Southern Baptist all their married life, and Jerry pastored several churches
during their ministry. However, Jean’s paternal grandmother Nancy Williams took her to Otis
Road
Church of God when she was a young girl and prayed for her entire family, and that had quite
an impact on Jean who served God her entire adult life. Jean left behind her three children
Cathy P. Blong, Gerald K. Powers Jr., and Walter D. Powers and their spouses Stewart Blong
Jr., Robin Powers, six grandchildren Chad Shannon, Cortney Miseldine, Stewart Blong III.,
Garrett Powers and Jennie Powers, and Adeline Powers, eight great grandchildren, a sister Gay
Kennedy and her husband Hiram, a brother Kent Williams and his wife Debby Williams, a sister-
in-law
Bobbie Thurlow, a brother-in-law Lamar Powers and his wife Ruth Ann Powers, and a brother-
in-law
Tommy Harrison. Jean Powers has won the fight and finished the race on March 2nd, 2024,
when standing before her heavenly father she heard the words she had read in her bible and
believed with all of her heart “well done thy good and faithful servant”. Funeral Services will be
held 11:00, Friday, March 8, 2024, at Otis Road Church of God with Pastor Stephen Thomas
officiating and family receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will
follow the service at Sellers Cemetery, Halsema Road, Jacksonville.
