Mr. Willie Edward Townsend, age 77 of Callahan, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022. Mr. Townsend was born in Greensboro, Alabama to the late George Washington Townsend and Della Crawford Townsend. He was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country during the Vietnam era. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Townsend had been employed at the Anheuser Busch Company for thirty years. He enjoyed raising beef cattle, farming, gardening and fishing. His neighbors knew him to be a helpful man that could be called upon in times of need. He was known in his neighborhood as the “Mayor of Sandy Fork Road” as he loved riding his golfcart around to visit his neighbors and friends. He is survived by his children: Amy (Kenney) Wagner of Middleburg and Hank Townsend of Callahan; grandchildren: Devin (Jamie) Sheffield and Dillon Sheffield, all of Hilliard, Brandon Townsend of California, Breonna Townsend of Ft. Walton, Ethan Townsend of Jacksonville and Susan (Jay) Taylor of Macclenny; great grandchildren: Landon Sheffield, Pierson Taylor, and Jaiden Townsend; son-in-law: Randy Sheffield of Hilliard; brothers: Ronald (Linda) Townsend and Ray Townsend, all of Mobile, Alabama; and sisters: Geneva Gilliam of Thomasville, Alabama and Louise Thomas of Greensboro, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years: Janet Townsend; his parents, and his siblings: George Townsend, Jack Townsend, W. C. Townsend, Dervin Townsend, and Cami McKenstry.
