Sarah Horejsi Obituary

Sarah Marie Horejsi, age 42 of Fleming Island, passed away at home with her family on August 12, 2021, after battling cancer for over two years.
Sarah was born in Camp Hill, PA on February 13, 1979.
She graduated from Millersville University and received her MBA in Human Resources from Columbia Southern University.
Sarah enlisted in the Coast Guard, serving on active duty from 2004 to 2011. While attending Avionics Electrical Technician School in Elizabeth City, NC, Sarah met another Coastie and the love of her life, Jon Horejsi. Jon and Sarah married and began their life together, moving so often that their four sons were born in four different states; Wyatt in Texas, Hudson in Virginia, Conway in North Carolina, and Maverick in Georgia.  She graduated from the Coast Guard Officer Candidate school and advanced to the rank of Lieutenant before she left the service and began to work in the private sector. Sarah was a member of Elevate Life Church in Jacksonville, FL., and worked as Director of Career Services for Virginia College. Students would often call Sarah before job interviews for support, and after with a thank you. No matter what she was doing, she always took the call. Sarah loved all sports, and she coached both basketball and soccer teams, when her sons played. Sarah was most proud of her work as an assistant helping to run  the Children’s Ministry program at New Life Church when she and Jon lived in Georgia. Sarah’s unwavering devotion to her family and friends will always be remembered.
She grew from an athletic and stellar student into an extraordinary young woman in her too short lifetime; a loving mother and devoted wife, who trusted in God’s plan for her life despite the health challenges she faced in her last years. Sarah was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bernard and Beatrice Connolly, her paternal grandparents, Leo and Barbara Wharton, her aunt, Judy Wharton Hunter, and her uncle, Jim Wharton. She is survived by her husband Jon, her four sons, Wyatt, Hudson, Conway and Maverick, her parents, Jack and Ellen Wharton of Lexington SC, and her brothers, John Regan Wharton of Norfolk, Virginia and Benjamin Wharton of Plymouth Meeting, PA , her mother-in-law, Sheryl Myers of Columbia, SC, her father-in-law Jack Horejsi of Lexington,  SC, her sister-in-law, Tara Horejsi Stamper, Tara’s husband, Chadwick Stamper of Kernersville, NC, her nephew, Landon, and her niece, Addie.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Hibernia Baptist Church in Fleming Island, FL on Saturday, August 21 at 11:00 am.
