Reverend Albert Paul Thomas, age 86 of Jacksonville, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 4, 2021. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Joseph L. and Mary Frances Wells Thomas. Mr. Thomas began his military service in the United States Marine Corps Reserves before enlisting in the United States Navy on active duty. Having a servant’s heart, Mr. Thomas was ordained as a minister in 1974 and continued in the ministry until his death. He retired from the Sears and Roebuck Company after forty-five years of employment and was the office manager for Giddens Security Corporation for an additional five years after that. Over the years he served as the president of the Baldwin Lion’s Club, president of the Baldwin High School Band Parents Association, was a member of the Baldwin Jr/Sr High School Advisory Council and was the District Director of Youth and Christian Education for the Church of God. He was a charter member and cofounder of the Baldwin Church of God. An avid sports fan, Mr. Thomas was a member of the Gator Bowl Association. He will be remembered as a man who loved God, his family, his church, and his community. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years: Marilyn Thomas of Jacksonville; children: Valerie (Tom) Jones and Reverend Stephen (Susan) Thomas, all of Jacksonville; grandchildren: Stephen Paul Thomas Jr. of Jacksonville, Janie Nolan of Jacksonville, Matt (Sara) Poole of Orange Park, and Myka (Ryan) Fetty of Savannah, GA; great grandchildren: Hunter, Garrett, Maleigh, Malachi, Brycen, DallyKay, Willow, and Jagger; sister: Betty Hicks of Knoxville, TN; sister-in-law: JoeAnn Thomas of Knoxville, TN; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his granddaughter: Katelyn Jones; his brothers: Lewis Thomas and William Thomas; and his sister: Anne Tinsley. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Otis Road Church of God, 801 Otis Road, Jacksonville with Reverend Dwight Allen and Administrative Bishop Tim Brown officiating. The family will receive friends at the church starting at 10:00am the day of the service. Interment will follow the service at Jones Cemetery, 45111 Jones Cemetery Road, Callahan.
