Marjorie Crews Obituary

Mrs. Marjorie J. Crews, age 88 of Ocala and formerly of Baldwin, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020. A Baldwin native, Ms. Crews was born to the late Joseph and Mildred Ryan Newsom. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, she retired after twenty-six years of service with the Duval County Board of Education. She was an active member of Biltmore Baptist Church in Jacksonville for over thirty years. Never one to be in the spotlight, she preferred helping in the church kitchen, preparing meals and cleaning up after church gatherings. She always made sure everyone who wanted to attend had a way to do so, many times driving those who did not. After her husband’s retirement from the railroad and in their later years, they returned to Baldwin to live in the family home where she was born. Mrs. Crews moved her church membership to First Baptist of Baldwin and as was her nature, became active behind the scenes, caring for others.  She was a very family-oriented woman who always put others first. She loved preparing meals for her family and took every opportunity to be actively involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. Mrs. Crews was a talented, self-taught pianist and used her talents for God’s glory by assisting her husband with ministries in both nursing home and prison settings.  She enjoyed cooking and baking, was an animal lover, and a caregiver to all. She is survived by her son: Albert Joseph (Donna) Crews of Jacksonville; daughter: Pam Hall of Ocala; grandchildren: Misty (James) Bailey of Jacksonville, Michael (Brandy) Hall Jr., of Ocala, Josh (Lauren) Crews, Brittany Hall (Sean Reade), Courtney (Patrick) Rabitaille, and Kaitlyn Crews (AJ Evans), all of Jacksonville; great grandchildren: Spencer, Brooke, and Everett Bailey, Elliott, Henry, and Edie Crews, Kyndall and baby Hall-Reade, Emily and Brooke Stodghill, and Alexander Rabitaille; and sister: Norma Rowe of Florence, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-eight years: Gene Crews; brother: Bill Newsom; and son-in-law: Mike Hall Sr. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in the chapel of Warren Funeral Services of Baldwin with Reverend Chris Drum officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Mill Creek Cemetery, Hilliard.
