Mr. Lonnie Amos Mizell, age 88 of Lawtey, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021. He was born in Folkston, Georgia to the late Lonnie and Aggie Mizell. Mr. Mizell enlisted in the United States Navy, served during the Korean War, and was stationed on the USS Iowa. Upon completion of his service, he settled in Jacksonville to raise his family before moving to Lawtey forty years ago. Mr. Mizell was a plumber/pipefitter for over fifty years and a member of Jacksonville Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 234. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing and hunting and was a member of several hunting clubs both locally and in South Carolina. Mr. Mizell had quite the green thumb and always had a beautiful garden. He loved farming his land and riding his tractor. A devoted family man he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his children: Sharon (Terry) Smith of Lawtey, Jeanne Hodge of Lawtey, and Lonnie David (Tanya) Mizell of Raiford; grandchildren: Bruce Siemer, Cody Smith, Shannon Ash, Jennifer Lee, and Kristen Newman; and brothers: Roger (Diane) Brown of Waycross, Georgia, John (Priscilla) Mizell of Lugoff, South Carolina, and Raymond (Lois) Mizell of St. George, Georgia. Five great grandchildren and numerous other family members also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years: Virginia “June” Mizell, his parents, and brothers: Frank Brown and Clyde Mizell. Funeral services will be held 12:00pm, Thursday, July 1, 2021, in the chapel at Warren Funeral Services of Baldwin with Brother Chance Johnson officiating. Interment will follow the service at Sellers Cemetery, Halsema Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
