Katy Crawford, a twenty-year resident of Jacksonville, passed away at age 59 on August 17, 2023, at Orange Park Hospital after having surgery for an acute medical issue.
Katy had one son, Michael Alan Zolts, Jr and she devoted her life to raising him and doing her best to keep him safe. He passed away tragically in 2021, and it broke her heart.
She grew up around Myrtle Beach, SC, along with her six brothers and sisters and followed two of her brothers after they relocated to Jacksonville.
She is survived by four siblings, Francis Cooper, Mary Mendez, Doris Wadsworth, Larry Cooper and two sisters-in-laws, Delia Cooper and Barbara Cooper. She was well loved by her many nieces and nephews and other children that she loved and cared for.
Katy was preceded in death by her parents Leroy Cooper and Mary Jo Mangrum; and two of her brothers, Thomas Lee Cooper, and John Cooper.
We’ll remember Katy as the one that could light up a room when she walked in. She would help anyone that needed a hand. Numerous people in her neighborhood this week came over to tell our family about the ways she had helped them in their lives. Katy was also fierce protector of the people she loved.
Doris and Katy had a special bond, both as children and adults, and the rest of us thought of them as one “Doris & Katy”. They took many trips and adventures together, keeping that loving friendship and bond intact, even as adults.
Katy will be memorialized as she requested; Katy and Michael’s ashes will be spread in the Florida Keys. May they both rest in peace – together forever.
