Ms. Jacqueline “Jackie” A. Merritt, of Jacksonville, has entered into eternal rest. Jackie grew up in New York and Texas, where she met the love of her life, her husband Ray. They relocated many times over the years and eventually settled in Jacksonville. A loving wife and mother and a tirelessly devoted “Grammie”, Jackie was very passionate in her mission for children with special needs. Jackie and her husband were foster parents to many special needs children over the years, assisting until children met their adoptive families. She served on the board of directors for the Developmental Learning Center for eight years and continued to volunteer for many years. She was a major advocate to expand services to include after school therapy and care for children with special needs. Never one to be in the spotlight, she devoted much of her time volunteering for church activities. She enjoyed family gatherings, the women’s church circle, game nights, shopping and various adventures with friends. Along with her husband, she operated Merritt Moving and Storage for forty years. Jackie’s door was always open and she always had time to listen. She is survived by her husband: Ray Merritt; her children: Jim , Jeff (Brenda) , Greg, Stephanie (Larry), Scotty (Jenny), and Jason; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, her sister Peggy (Bob), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, foster children, friends, and many young men and women whose lives she touched through Merritt Moving and Storage. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ferne and Lester. A private service will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of the following organizations that Jackie was so passionate about supporting: Developmental Learning Center, Jacksonville (www.DLCNL.org) , www.pinecastle.org, or Murray Hill United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Warren Funeral Services of Baldwin. Please leave condolences for the family at www.warrenfuneralservices.com.
