Mr. Hugh Melton, age 87 of Baldwin, passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Mr. Melton was a United States Army Veteran and a retired truck driver. He drove for Alton Box Board Company before it became Jefferson Smurfit Corporation and was employed for forty years at the time of his retirement. Mr. Melton was active in his community. He volunteered his time at the Baldwin Senior Citizen Center, where he enjoyed cooking and interacting with his neighbors. Mr. Melton was also involved with ShAdCo, the Sheriff’s Advisory Council for community safety. He was a dedicated family man and was highly active in his children’s lives, having coached many of their athletic teams while growing up. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as an awesome dad, grandpa, great grandpa and friend. He is survived by his daughter Robbi (JR) Green and son Chris Melton all of Baldwin; grandchildren: Tori Green of Baldwin, Becky (Regi) Selgren of Baldwin, Caleb Melton of Maxville, Cameron (Amelia) Green of Baldwin, Miranda Hopkins of Jacksonville, and Rayna Melton and Tanner Melton, both of Florence, AL; great grandchildren: Grayson, Spencer, Maverick, and Kaisley; siblings: Edna, Sally Lee, Mavis, Mary Alice, William, Gerald, and Shirley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years: Barbara Melton, his son: Barry Melton; his parents: Bayard and Annie P. Melton; brothers: Franklin, Donald, and Alvin; and sisters: Lena Mae and Julia Grace. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Saturday, July 10, 2021, in the chapel of Warren Funeral Services of Baldwin with Brother Gene Hodges officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville. The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Friday, July 9, 2021, at the funeral home.
