Geraldine Crawford Young

Geraldine Elizabeth Crawford Young (Gerry) became a resident of Heaven on Sunday, March 12, 2023, after 82 years filled with joy, laughter, tears, love, and hope in the Lord. Geraldine was born on October 22, 1940 in Bristol, Georgia. She grew up in Patterson, Blackshear, and Folkston, Georgia where she and her siblings helped her parents Oden and Flora on the family farm. After graduating high school, Geraldine worked for the Gulf Life Insurance Company in Jacksonville, Florida. She met and married George Young in 1959, and they lived in Jacksonville until they purchased land and built their home in Middleburg, Florida in 1970 and moved there with their two daughters, Donna and Kim.  The family were members of Long Branch Baptist Church, where Geraldine was involved in many ministries, taught preschoolers in Sunday School, and loved on babies in the nursery for over 40 years. She taught and inspired many young people as a Girl Scout and 4H Leader for many years and was always a part of whatever activity or classroom her children were involved in. Over the years she picked cotton, birthed cows and goats, sewed beautiful clothes, grew and canned vegetables, took care of grandchildren, took care of parents, camped, fished, read and studied her Bible, and had a full life that she openly shared with those around her.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband George in 2014. She is survived by her children - Donna (Paul) Hodge, Kim (Kirk) Webb; grandchildren and great-grandchildren – Dwayne (Destini) George, Tymber, Ryver, Ember Rain; Lacey Hodge; Konner Webb; Kaleb Webb; Rusty & Kaila Wood, Sheaylyn, Kassidee, Stetson, Karter,  Kole;  siblings, Alvin (Ruth) Crawford, Colleen Burkhalter, Shirley (Claude) Williams, Maxine (Burnette) Ross, & Pauline (Terry) Rix; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Services honoring Geraldine’s life will be held on Saturday, March 18 at Long Branch Baptist Church in Maxville, Florida. Viewing/visitation will be at 11:00, and the funeral service will be at noon followed by a brief graveside service and luncheon at the church. Those wishing to send flowers may send them to Warren Funeral Services in Baldwin, Florida prior to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering at Long Branch Baptist Church.
