Benjamin Lewis Briggs, age 39 of Jacksonville, passed away November 1, 2023. Benjamin grew up in Murray Hill on the westside of Jacksonville. He attended Ruth N. Upson Elementary, Lakeshore Junior High and Lee Senior High schools in Jacksonville. Ben spent most of his childhood playing at Murray Hill Park, where he played baseball for the first time and where he could almost always be found playing with the rest of the park rats while their parents coached ball. He was instrumental in the renovation of the concession stand in the 1990’s. His name can still be found on the memorial on the concession stand wall. Ben was a roofer/crew leader at Cache Roofing and was a valuable asset to the company for the last eight years. His crew knew they could count on Ben to get them through tough situations and Ben loved working for the company and considered them family. Ben was a loving father and husband; he loved his family more than anything. He enjoyed hiking and canoeing with his boys, spending as much time as he could, teaching them survival techniques to better prepare them for the future. He taught them well, disciplined them when necessary and loved them constantly. His children were his motivation. He was also a good big brother to his siblings. Ben was a talented guitar player and artist who could draw anything asked of him. He was also a craftsman who would build everything from chairs to baby cribs in his spare time as a hobby. Ben loved a homemade southern meal and his favorite was homemade corndogs. His easy-going attitude and willingness to help made him a very likable person and most who met him wanted to know him better. Three words to describe Ben: Loving- because he would do whatever necessary to make sure his children were taken care of, no matter the circumstances; Determined – because he would never give up hope in any situation he was faced with. He knew he could overcome anything; and Caring- because Ben would be there to help family and friends whenever they were in need, whether it was a meal or a place to sleep. Ben is survived by his common law wife of twenty-two years: Donna Johnson; sons: Jaden Carl Johnson, Noah Lewis Briggs, Levi Grady Briggs, and Judah Michael Briggs; mother: Sharon Kay Briggs, father and stepmother: Donald Lewis (Kimberly Lynn) Briggs; sister: Mary Alise Briggs and brother: Jeremy Jacob Briggs. A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00pm, Friday, November 17, 2023, at Promise Land Baptist Church, Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, with Pastor Steve Whitcomb officiating. Warren Funeral Services of Baldwin is honored to serve the Briggs family.
