Mr. Artis Lee Allen, age 88 of Baldwin, passed away Wednesday, October 27, 2021. Born in Waycross, Georgia to the late Joe Brown Allen and Jessie Marie Sweat Allen, he’d made his home in Baldwin for the last fifty-two years. Mr. Allen worked at the Jacksonville Shipyard for almost twenty years before starting his own business, Allen Brothers Welding, which he owned for fifty years. He was greatly loved and respected in the town of Baldwin. Many of the local youth benefited from his mentorship over the years as he was known to be a compassionate and giving man. A member of Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny, Mr. Allen was faithful in sharing his love for God and witnessing to others. His love for life and for people was evident in his actions. Mr. Allen was an avid racing fan who greatly enjoyed watching his sons race stock cars. He enjoyed fishing and especially loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife: Deborah Allen; children: Darlene (Phillip) Chessman of Sanderson, David Thompson of Bryceville, David (GeorgeAnne) Allen of Jacksonville, Darrell (Julie) Roberts, Debbie (Tim) Brown, and Bo (Athena) Allen, all of Bryceville; brothers: Kirby Allen of Minneapolis, Kansas, Andy Allen and Mike (Susan) Allen, all of Jacksonville; sisters: Linda Sanford and Marlene (Jack) Linnen, all of Jacksonville; numerous loving grand, great and great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Myrl Sheffield of Jacksonville; and his best friend: Troy Meredith of Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his late wife and children’s mother Flora Mae Rhoden Allen, son: Hank Sheffield, brothers: Edward Allen and Larry Allen, sister: Doris Phillips, and sister-in-law: Barbara Allen. Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm, Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Christian Fellowship Temple, Macclenny with Pastor David Thomas officiating. Interment will follow the service at Macedonia Cemetery in Macclenny. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until service time, at the church, on the day of the service. At the family’s request and with concern for everyone’s wellbeing, masks will be required and please be mindful of social distancing.
