Mrs. Agnes Gwynne Hodges, age 85 of Baldwin, passed away Friday, June 12, 2020. Born to the late Claude and Eva Dell Johns, she was a lifelong Baldwin resident. Mrs. Hodges was a 1953 graduate of Baldwin High School and a faithful, lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Baldwin. She worked for the Prudential Insurance Company until her marriage to her husband of sixty six years, Mr. Eugene “Gene” Hodges, originally of Macclenny. She was known to be a gentle, loving person with a sweet, patient spirit. The backbone of her family, she was very protective of her husband and her children and was an exceptional wife, mother, and friend to all of them. Mrs. Hodges loved her church and her church family. She taught Sunday School and was a dutiful witness of the love of Jesus and won many souls to the Lord. Mrs. Hodges was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes for her children, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She was known to be an excellent cook and was especially appreciated for her buttermilk biscuits. Other hobbies included going bowling and traveling. She especially cherished her yearly trips to the mountains with her cousins and sister. She is survived by her husband: Mr. Eugene “Gene” E. Hodges of Baldwin; sons: Eugene “Pete” E. (Barbara) Hodges II of Oregon, Joel “Chan” (Jacki) Hodges of High Springs, FL, and Mitchell Tyler ( Pamela Kaye) Hodges of Baldwin; grandchildren: Gene Hodges, Luke Hodges, Courtney (David) Meatte, Joel (Sheena) Hodges II, Leah (Eric) Martin, Ashley (Josh) Mizell, Mitchell (Brittany) Hodges II, Clayton Jackson, Richard Jackson, and Victoria Jackson; nine great-grandchildren; brother Claude Johns of Baldwin, sister: Glenda Hagan of Whitehouse; her “mountain crew” of more than twenty years: cousins Nancy Schoenenberger, Judy Jones, Paula S. Boyd, Stacy Schoenenberger and sister, Glenda. Numerous friends and other family also survive. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held 11:00am,Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Baldwin with Pastor Chris Drum and Reverend Donnie Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Brandy Branch Cemetery in Bryceville.
