Funeral Services for William Joe Eddy "Papa Joe" (80) of Callahan, Florida will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 2, 2009 in the Callahan Church of God with Rev. Andrew Gillis and Rev. E.A. Holbrooks officiating. The interment will immediately follow in Jones Cemetery, Callahan, Florida. Mr. Eddy was born November 22, 1928 in Baker County, Florida, son of the late A.L. "Bert" Eddy and the former Mattie Crews. Joe graduated from Taylor High School in 1948 and went to work with Norfolk Southern Railroad as a switchman for 36 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing and singing bluegrass gospel music. He boarded the Lord's train to heaven on October 29, 2009 in Jacksonville, Florida following a lengthy illness. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Vera Crews Eddy, he is survived by: two daughters, Vicki (Mike) Manges and Paulette (Donald) Kirkland; son, Chris (Dee) Eddy; nine grandchildren, Klynt (Heather) Farmer, Jason (Paige) Eddy, Travis (Jennifer) Higginbotham, Daniel (Arlene) Eddy, Amanda (Eric) Soles, Stephanie (Jared) Witkowski, Kati Farmer, Justin Kirkland and Jamie Kirkland; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Jewell (Cy) Higginbotham and Bernice (Sam) Harris; brother, Albert (Corrine) Eddy; numerous family and friends. The grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009 in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, the Wolfson's Children Hospital Oncology Fund & Dreams Come True Foundation in his memory.
