Van Jones

Biography

Our beloved Van R. Jones passed away on June 20, 2013. Van was a lifelong resident of the Town of Baldwin, Florida. Van's interests in photography begin at an early age and it became his life work. He was a talented and award winning photographer and videographer who served for 39 years as the station photographer and videographer for the local PBS station, WJCT Channel 7. Van was instrumental in the production of many local television programs such as "Down to Earth" and "Out the Door". Van was also well known as a free-lance photographer doing weddings, special events, and football games. Van was a graduate of Baldwin High School and attended Jacksonville University and Miami University. He graduated from Lindsay Hopkins Technical Institute with a certificate in Television Production. In later years, Van served as the Chair Person of the Town of Baldwin Development Board and was a charter member of the Town of Baldwin's Quiet Zone Committee. He gave generously of his photograph talents to the Town and other institutions in the community. Van was a lifelong member of Baldwin United Methodist Church. Van was pre-deceased by his parents Van R. Jones, Sr. and Alma K. Jones and his grandmother Mamie Agnes Jones. Van is survived by his wife of 48 years, Laura M. Jones, his son Jason A. Jones and daughter-in-law Patsy Jones. He is also survived by several dear cousins who include Nan G. Key-Lopez, Bryan Key, Claudia Ellis, his church family and special friends, J. Ronald Williams and Phyllis Williams, Carolyn Henry, Libby Willis and Duane A. Sikes. Van will be missed by his dear pets (Snowy, Maggie, Sugar, Gracie and Dottie). Van loved to garden and was a dedicated lifelong vegetarian. His unique humor and gentleness will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The viewing will be held June 24th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home and funeral services will be held on June 25th at 10:00 AM at Baldwin United Methodist Church with Reverend Dan Search officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Baldwin United Methodist Church or Bryceville Historical Methodist Church.
