Thomas Jackson

Graveside committal for Thomas Eugene Jackson "Tommy" (50) of Jacksonville, Florida will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens (800 Hammond Blvd.) The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2009 at Prestwood Funeral Home. Mr. Jackson was born July 1, 1958 in Brunswick, Georgia, son of Melvin Eugene Jackson and the former Hazel Geneva Howell. He passed away April 24, 2009 at his residence in Jacksonville, Florida. As a child he enjoyed building go-karts and dirt bikes. He began drag racing at the age of 15 and won 1st place in his class of IHRA and 2nd place in NHRA. On most Saturday nights he could be found in Gainesville, Florida winning races. Mr. Jackson was a mechanic at Terry Buick for 28 years and then went to Coggin Pontiac for another 2 years for a total of 30 years of service in the auto industry. His passion was racing and as an avid fan of Dale Earhardt, Sr. and Jr., he enjoyed watching NASCAR. Past times included billiards, where he was a top contender in his league. A good husband and father, he is survived by: Wife of 22 years, Vicki Jackson; Two Daughters, Kelly (Aaron) Morrow and Jessica Fryer; Two Sons, Troy (Brandi) Jackson and Ray (Jessica) Walker, III; Five Granddaughters, Kaitlyn Nuwer, Kirsten Nuwer, Madilyn Fryer, Gracie Walker, Ava Morrow and McKenzie Walker; Two Brothers, Todd Jackson and Tracy Jackson; Sister, Tammy (Don) Johnson; Numerous Family and Friends.
