Mr. Robert E. Johnson went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born in Jacksonville to the late Everett and Gertrude Morehouse Johnson and was a lifelong Duval County resident. After serving in the United States Army, Mr. Johnson was employed as an appliance repairman for Sears Department Store for thirty-five years. Afterward, he operated his own appliance repair service for over a decade until the time of his retirement. A longtime member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God, Mr. Johnson was a witness of the Gospel and shared the love of Jesus with everyone he encountered. He was a talented musician, playing guitar, mandolin, and dobro, and loved singing with his brothers and ministering through music at local nursing facilities and anywhere there was a need or opportunity. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, snorkeling in the Florida Keys, hunting, and traveling. Along with his wife, he traveled all over the United States and Canada, camping, hiking, biking and jeeping. Together, they spent much time in nature, sleeping under the stars, viewing the Milky Way and the Northern Lights; truly appreciating God's Creation. During his travels, he never missed an opportunity to share the love of Christ with everyone he met along the way. His presence will be greatly missed by his wife of forty-seven years, Rita Johnson of Jacksonville; daughters: Jan Johnson (David) Smith of Glen St. Mary and Kim (Don Googe) Dillon of Orange Park; stepson: Alan (Isa) Nelsen of Miami; grandchildren: Amanda, Michael, Mike, Josh, Tucker, and Madison; great-grandchildren: Makayla, Chase, Sarai, Aiden, Luke, Karrah, and another blessing on the way; brothers: Marvin Johnson and Randy (Joann) Johnson, all of Jacksonville; and sisters-in-law: Margaret Johnson Hinds of Keystone Heights and Lydia Johnson-Oakes of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Charles Johnson, Clarence Johnson, and Steve Johnson and sister: Margie Rogers. A celebration of life service will be held 11:30am, Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Evangel Temple Assembly of God with Reverend Dwight Everett Allen and Pastor Jordan Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery. The Johnson family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am at the church, the morning of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tim Tebow Foundation at https://timtebowfoundation.org/donate. Warren Funeral Services of Baldwin is honored to serve the Johnson family.
