Funeral services for Senior Chief Petty Officer (RET) Richard Allan "Dick" Travis, Sr. (71) of Bryceville, Florida will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Brandy Branch Baptist Church (Bryceville, FL) with Pastors, Rusty Bryan, Jack Lee and Bill Turner officiating. The interment will immediately follow in Brandy Branch Cemetery, Bryceville; FL. Mr. Travis was born February 6, 1936, in Long Island, New York, the son of the late Clinton E Travis and the former Frieda A Baldwin. He passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007 at his home in Bryceville, FL. EMCS (RET) Travis enlisted in the United States NAVY on January 11, 1955 and received recruit training at the Naval Training Center in Bainbridge, MD. He served on board the following ships: USS Robert K. Huntington, USS Genesee, USS Bolster, USS Simon Lake, USS Cone and the USS Josephus Daniels. He also served shore tours at the following duty stations: Naval Training Center, Service Schools Command, Great Lakes, IL; Reserve Fleet, Green Cove Springs, FL; U.S. Submarine Base, New London, CT; Naval Training Center, San Diego, CA; Naval Station, Annapolis, MD. With love and honor for his country, he served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Dick was an active member of Brandy Branch Baptist Church serving as a deacon. In addition to his wife of 49 years, Eleanor Dean Travis, he is survived by: Two Sons, Ricky (Sherri) Travis and Bruce (Susan) Travis; Daughter, Norma (Rodney) Owens; Four Sisters, Joan McBride, Marge Travis, Janice (Charles) Vogel and Mary (Ray) Wetter; Two Brothers, Bob (Fran) Travis and Kenny (Arlene) Travis; Eight Grandchildren. Serving as Pallbearers: Bruce Travis, Ricky Travis, Rodney Owens, Joseph Owens, Kenny Travis and Bob Travis. Honorary Pallbearers: Ray Wetter, Charles Vogel, Roy Braddock, Dwight Braddock, Chris Travis-Chappel, Eric Hartin, Colton Travis, David Hunt, Morgan Stokes, Randy Braddock, Marvin White and Mitchell Reeves. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, October 2, 2007 in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home.
