Dr. Alec Patrick "Pat" Vaughan was born on August 20th, 1950 and went to heaven surrounded by loving family in his home on January 29th, 2017. In the years between his birth and death, Pat lived a life characterized by service, an endless thirst for knowledge, music, but most of all – God's love. Pat was a loyal son, a faithful and loving husband for 42 years, a doting father to his two children and grandchildren, and a devoted Christ-follower.  Pat's love of learning led him to Paxon High School, earning a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan, a Master's Degree from Southern Baptist Seminary and a Doctorate from Luther Rice Theological Seminary. His love of music drove him to Juilliard, where he majored in classical double bass – a talent that he shared in many places, from local churches and the Louisville Orchestra to the Biltmore Mansion and The White House. Dr. Vaughan's heart for Christian service was displayed through many years spent as a pastor, preacher, and music teacher in Jacksonville's churches and schools.  His love and passion for people to know his Jesus are remembered by all who knew him for even a short time. He is preceded in death by his parents Alec and Geneva Vaughan and is survived by his darling wife Cheryl, their children Timothy (Christina) and Heather Sylvia (Paul), his grandchildren Isabel and Isaac, sisters Kathy Collins (Wayne) and Nan Ramey, step mother Emily Vaughan and step sisters Pat Torres and Marien Cox (John), beloved sister and brother in law, Annette and David Brinson, dear friends Danny and Debbie Cribbs, Aunt Geneer Thompson, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Pat was thankful for the close community offered by his WBC Sunday school class. He also was very grateful for his loving school, Atlantic Beach Elementary where he was 2016 Teacher of the Year and which cared in so many tangible ways for Pat and his family during his illness.

Family visitation will be held on Friday, February 3 from 6-8 at Westside Baptist Church and the funeral service on Saturday, February 4 at 11:00 at Westside Baptist Church, with Dr. Bob Barton officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Atlantic Beach Elementary School, 298 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.
