Mr. Maxie C. Barber Sr., age 74 of Bryceville, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019. Mr. Barber was born and raised in Bryceville, the son of the late Carl and Mamie Hickox Barber. He was a truck driver and retired from UPS after thirty years of accident free driving. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and a regular at Everybody’s Restaurant in Baldwin. Mr. Barber enjoyed working on his property and classic and antique cars. He especially enjoyed attending cars shows and driving his 1957 Ford Fairlane in the Main Street Cruise in Jacksonville. He is survived by his son: Maxie Barber Jr. of Oklahoma; daughters: Karen Hicks (John Porter) of Callahan and Dawn (Phillip) Clark of Middleburg; grandchildren: Maxie “Trace” Barber III, Karisa (Jake) Cole, Danielle Baugh, Kelsey (Joshua) Green, Symphany Baugh, Nelson Hicks, and Nathan Baugh; six great grandchildren; sisters: Dejaun Rowe of Bryceville and Judy (Jimmy) Merritt of Hilliard; sister-in-law: Lorice Barber of Hilliard; and his special friend: Charlotte Skelton. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Lennox Barber and his mother Mamie Hickox Barber and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Friday, March 1, 2019 in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at River Road Baptist Church Cemetery in Hilliard. Mr. Barber’s family will receive friends 6-8:00pm, Thursday, February 28, 2019 at the funeral home. Arrangements are entrusted to Prestwood Funeral Home, Baldwin, Florida.
