Matthew Edward Davis Baran, age 34 of Jacksonville, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018. Matthew was a Jacksonville native and a 2002 graduate of Baldwin Jr and Sr High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he began a career in healthcare. A registered nurse, he spent over five years caring for his fellow veterans at Eisenhower Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. Later he was employed by the Florida Department of Corrections and worked at the Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler, Florida. Matthew was very passionate about healthcare and his family. He will be remembered as a studious, eager to learn, easy going young man who cared for his fellow man. He is survived by his mother and step-father: Mary and Julian Guess of Jacksonville; sister: Mary Beth (Patrick) Flynn of Naples; brother: Mark Baran of Sanderson: grandparents: Paul and Brenda Davis: step-sisters: Darlene Todd and Connie Guess; and aunt and uncle: Jerry and Ramona Hance, all of Jacksonville. Matthew is also survived by his extended Davis and Staver family members. Funeral services, with military honors, will be held 9:00am, Monday December 17, 2018 at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville with Chaplain James Williams officiating.
