Marian Stokes (80) of Baldwin, Florida, passed away on September 10, 2017 at St. Vincent’s medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Marian was born in Collins Georgia, but she discovered her true home at the age of 11 years old, when she moved to Baldwin and met the love of her life, Wilton Marson Stokes. According to Wilton, before meeting Marian he had sworn off girls with freckles and glasses; but after seeing her in school for the very first time, all he could say was “wow”, and he knew right then that “she was the girl for him.” Marian accomplished much in her life, but first and foremost she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Everyone she met became part of the family. Her kindness, open ears, and loving heart, made sure that those who knew her loved her. Marian’s selflessness was matched only by her resilience as she worked tirelessly to care for those she loved with ceaseless compassion and an unfading smile on her face. Many hearts feel broken and hollow by her passing and an enormous emptiness resides where she once did, comforted only by the knowledge that she is at rest in her eternal heavenly home. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch Gore Oliver & Sadie Holland, and her daughter, Bonnie Jean Stokes. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Wilton Marson Stokes; daughter, Sandra Idel Luhman (Dirk); grandson, Rex Walter Luhman; granddaughter, Bonny Beth Leah Luhman; sister, JoAnn Oliver Fouraker (David); brother, William Lester Oliver (Pat); as well as numerous extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Baldwin with Rev. Chris Drum officiating. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2017 in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home.
