Funeral services for Lester Elijah Jacobs (87) of Jacksonville, Florida will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Old Plank Road Baptist Church with Pastor Larry McGinley officiating. The interment will immediately follow in Riverside Memorial Park with military honors. Mr. Jacobs was born on January 26, 1923 in Hoboken, Georgia, son of the late Owen Levi Jacobs and the former Rachael Evelyn Sapp. He passed away on October 4, 2010 at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to his wife, Annie Ophelia Jacobs, survivors include: four daughters, Barbara (Harry) Pounds, Jean (Garland) Whaley, Ann (Wayne) Dill and Loretta (John) Sanford; three sons, Jerry (Phyllis) Jacobs, Sr., Donnie (Terri) Jacobs and Ronnie (Janet) Jacobs; fifteen grandchildren, Rene (Tony) Goodman, Teresa (Rob) Greenquist, Ken (Rebecca) Adams, Joseph (Renee) McQueen, Lisa (Doug) Thomas, Jerry Jacobs, Jr., Carolyn (Jeremy) Jacobs, Julie Pilger, Kristy (Mike) Ham, Lori Jacobs, D.J. (Tiffany) Jacobs, Marshal (Erica Lynn) Jacobs, James (Brandi) Jacobs, Bradley Sanford and Brittany Sanford; twenty five great grandchildren, Krista, Chris, Savannah, DeSean, Jordan, Katie, Ashlie, Amber, Steven, April, Little J, Dylan, Gaige, Garrett, Richie, Clayton, Austin, Hannah, Madison, Landon, Preston, Marissa, Aiden, Airess and Victoria; great-great grandchild, Kailton; numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: three grandchildren, C.J. McLendon, Carl Pippins and Tammy Whaley Murray; five brothers, Lonzo, Gibson, Talmedge, Homer and Henry Jacobs; three sisters, Pearl Chesser, Ivey Jacobs and Mary Evelyn Jacobs. His grandsons serving as pallbearers include: Ken Adams, Joseph McQueen, Bradley Sanford, Marshal Jacobs, James Jacobs, D.J. Jacobs, Chris Goodman and Richie Walden. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at Old Plank Road Baptist Church on Friday, October 8, 2010.
