John Frederick "Freddie" Kast Jr.

Mr. John Frederick "Freddie" Kast Jr., age 77 of Baldwin, went home to Heaven on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. A lifelong Baldwin area resident, Mr. Kast attended and played football at Baldwin High School where he was known as "the toe" for his barefoot kicking style. He was employed by CSX Railroad for thirty-five years and was an Engineer at the time of his retirement. Mr. Kast was an active member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Baldwin until the time of his passing. He enjoyed hunting, watching westerns and sports and was an avid FSU football fan. Having a heart for service and his community, he volunteered at the Baldwin Community Center delivering meals on a weekly basis and also distributing food for Feeding Northeast Florida once a month. A devoted family man, Mr. Kast was the true head of his household. He was dedicated to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grands and even stepped in to help raise some of his grandchildren. He is greatly loved and will be forever missed. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years: Laura Kast; children: Andrea Beth (Rob) Keen of Jacksonville, Amy Marie (Robert) Stanley of Jacksonville, and Matthew (Libby) Kast of Callahan; grandchildren: Laura (Joshua) Santiago of Baldwin, Chad (Chloe) Tison of Callahan, Kristen (David) Rios of Macclenny, Alyssa Kast of Jacksonville, Nate Kast of Callahan, Braden Keen of Jacksonville, Rebecca Kast of Callahan, and Addison Stanley of Jacksonville; and great grandchildren: Chloey, Mackenna, and Sage "George" Santiago and Grayson and Carson Tison. He was preceded in death by his parents: John Frederick and Willow Mae Fouraker Kast Sr. and his brother: Watson "Doc" Kast. Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Saturday, June 22, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Baldwin, with Pastor Chris Drum officiating. Interment will follow the service at Brandy Branch Cemetery, Bryceville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
