Jane Smith

– Funeral Services for Jane Geneva Byrd Smith (83) of Jacksonville, FL will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Long Branch Baptist Church (Maxville, FL) with Rev. Copeland Smith and Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. The interment will immediately follow in Long Branch Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born April 24, 1924 in Maxville, FL the daughter of the late Jessie James Byrd and the former Dora O'Steen. She went home to be with the Lord on April 9, 2008 following a lengthy illness. A life-long resident of Clay County she was the oldest living member of Long Branch Baptist Church. After driving a school bus for Clay and Duval County she went on to retire from Anchor Hocking Glass. Survivors include: Four Daughters, Patsy (Buddy) Griffis, Peggy (James) Peterson, Robbin (David) Harris and Roxanne Rosier; Nine Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 38 years, Albert G. Smith, she was preceded in death by: Three Sisters, Baby Lucille, Ruby Durrance Green and Nora Bell Green. Serving as Pallbearers include: Vernon Peterson, Bryan Rosier, Alvin Smith, Aaron Peterson, Ryan Rosier and Randy Wilkerson. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Milton Green, Marvin Smith, Dale Wilson, Howard Durrance, R.V. Durrance, Tommy Lang, Randy Green, Mickey Murray and Jerry Padgett. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2008 in the chapel of Prestwood Funeral Home.
