James Moore

Services for James Issac Moore (81) of Jacksonville, Florida will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery (4083 Lannie Road) with Pastor David Mullins officiating. Mr. Moore was born February 10, 1928, in Pine Knot, Kentucky, son of the late Fred Moore and the former Martha Anderson. He passed away March 26, 2009 following a brief illness. In April 1946, he joined the U.S. NAVY serving until his retirement in January 1966. During his twenty years of dedicated service he was assigned to: Key West and Jacksonville, Florida (Shore Duty); New London, Connecticut; Germany (Shore Duty); Charleston, South Carolina; San Francisco, California; New Port, Rhode Island. He served on submarines, destroyers and radar picket ships. Following his retirement from the U.S. NAVY, he chose to make his home in Jacksonville, Florida, where he started a second career with the Naval Air Station Fire Department working on the crash crew. Mr. Moore was a devout Christian and loved to whistle, "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." He was a big FSU fan whose favorite hobbies included fishing and watching little league baseball. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Betty Jo Moore of Saxton, Kentucky, he is survived by: Three Sons, Jim (Jean) Moore, Robert Moore, and George (Tracy) Moore; One Daughter, Rhonda Moore; Seven Grandchildren and Five Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Kenneth (Donnice) Moore and daughter Sharon (Lee) Hagan. He was truly loved by all who knew him and his presence will be missed by all of his family and friends. Our Lord has reserved a place in heaven for him.
