Graveside Services for Gilford Eugene Yarborough, Jr. (88) of Clay Hill, Florida will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in Green Lawn Cemetery (4300 Beach Blvd.) with Jack Collier officiating Masonic Burial Rites and the U.S. NAVY presenting military honors. Mr. Yarborough was born in Baxley, Georgia, son of the late Gilford Eugene Yarborough, Sr. and the former Jessie Mae Ammons. Serving in the Merchant Marines during WWII from December 7, 1941 till his honorable discharge on August 15, 1945, he traveled the Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean and Middle East. After his time in the military, he began his career as an iron worker until his retirement. Being a Mason for 50 years, he reached the status of 32nd Degree Shriner. The things that were dearest to him included family, reading, music, politics, fishing, hunting, and baseball. He passed away April 9, 2009 in Jacksonville, Florida following a brief illness. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Bertha Mae Yarborough, survivors include: Son, James (Dee) Owens; Two Grandsons and One Great-Granddaughter; Numerous Family & Friends.
