Obituary

Ann Sutherland Proctor, born on January 5, 1940, departed this world peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family and her devoted husband, Tom Proctor, on December 30, 2025. She was a remarkable woman whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife, Ann's absence will be deeply felt by those she held dear.

Ann's journey spanned 85 years, marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her generous spirit. Her life was a tapestry woven with beautiful memories and the kind of love that creates lasting legacies. As a mother, she nurtured her children with unconditional love, imparting values of kindness, humility, and resilience. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever treasure the moments spent with her—her guidance, booming laughter, and stories shared during quiet afternoons in her living room.

Ann's home was a haven for family gatherings, where every meal was infused with love and every holiday brimming with laughter. Her ability to make everyone feel welcome and cherished left an indelible mark on each heart she touched. She had a unique talent for creating unforgettable experiences, even if it was a simple family dinner or a festive celebration. She loved to decorate, craft, and cook. Her creations were always special, whether it was a Halloween costume tailored for her grandchild or napkins she delicately folded to perfection for Thanksgiving. Her warm hugs and infectious smile could light up a room and comfort those in need.

Preceded in death by her father, Foy B. Blaylock; her mother, Leona Coalson; her sister, Mary Jane Wright; and her daughter, Alice Ann Sutherland King, Ann leaves behind a legacy of warmth and love. Her surviving family includes her devoted husband, Tom, with whom she shared an extraordinary bond built on love and partnership; her daughter, Susan Williams; her grandson, Ian Sutherland; her granddaughter, Brynne Williams; and her two beautiful granddaughters, Maxine and Ripley. Additionally, she is survived by her very special friends Ryan and Jaclyn Palmer, whom the family would like to extend their gratitude towards for their loving support. Each of them carries precious memories of Ann that will forever be part of their lives.

After graduating, Ann proudly served in the Waves, embracing a sense of duty that would echo throughout her life. However, it was her role as a mother that defined her story. Becoming a single mother was a challenge she faced with immense courage until she met her soulmate, Tom. In a heartwarming twist of fate, they sealed their bond in marriage at the Navy Chapel in Virginia Beach in August of 1977. Their love blossomed as they built a life together in Jacksonville, where they pursued their passions and supported each other in all their endeavors.

Ann’s career was as colorful as her spirit. She began working as an accountant for the Jacksonville Suns Baseball team, where her love for hardwork and a sense of community flourished. She then contributed her talents to Movsowitz & Sons Produce Company, but it was her entrepreneurial journey with Tom that truly showcased her creativity. Together, they ventured into breeding exotic parrots, a labor of love that allowed Ann to craft and sell products related to these charming birds. "The Surrogate Parrot," a testament to Ann’s dedication and creativity, continues to thrive, reflecting her everlasting influence in the community.

As we remember Ann, let us celebrate the joy she brought into our lives, the laughter she shared, and the wisdom she imparted. Her legacy of love, resilience, and creativity will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, reminding us all of the beautiful moments that define our lives. Ann was more than just a remarkable woman; she was a blessing to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be missed more than words can express.
